Anne Passantino died in Seattle on March 25, 2025 at the age of 97. She was born February 2, 1928 in Mississippi to Carl and Mae Smith. She earned a BA degree from Millsaps College, Jackson, MS, and a Master’s degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. She served as a WAVE officer during the Korean War, with duty in Newport, RI, Memphis, TN, London, England, Washington, DC, and Norfolk, VA. In 1958, she was married to LT Sebastian Phillip Passantino, U.S. Navy. She later resigned her military commission, and she and her husband raised three children together while being stationed around the world with the U.S. Navy. Anne’s husband Captain (US Navy, Retired) S.P. Passantino passed away in 2009. Their son John, 48, also died that year. Anne was a member of the Sand Point United Methodist Church, Seattle, WA and the English Speaking Union. She was also active in the neighborhood Walkie-Talkies and the Navy Officers’ Wives’ stitchery group. She will be remembered as a loyal friend, a loving mother and grandmother, a gracious hostess and a world wide traveler. Anne is survived by her son Paul (Ann) La Palma, CA, and her daughter Nancy Croston (Tim) Andover, MA, and four grandchildren. A private memorial service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Sand Point United Methodist Church, Seattle, Washington.
