Mabel Harriet (nee Hodge) Starkey, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2021, at her residence in Seattle, WA. Harriet was born December 22, 1925, in Grandview, Texas, to Robert Hayden Hodge and Mabel Harris Hodge. In 1944, she met and married James Walter Starkey. Their marriage was one of adventure and many achievements. She lived in California, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Texas, and Washington, and assisted her husband in building three beautiful homes in LaCañada, CA, Anchorage, AK and Ashland, OR. Her skills and talents as a knitter, needlecrafter, artist, seamstress, gardener, baker, and natural food enthusiast were greatly loved and appreciated by her family and friends. She received a private pilot’s license at 65 years of age in her own Grumman Tiger aircraft. Harriet and Jim traveled to many destinations, from Hawaii to Florida, Minnesota to Texas, and internationally to Chile, Hong Kong, Ireland, and England. They also enjoyed flying their own aircraft to many destinations across the USA. She is survived by her three children, their spouses, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. |
