Nancy passed away peacefully after a series of illnesses at her Adult Family Home in Seattle on September 23, 2023.

She was the youngest child of James Harper Shelton Sr and Marjorie Elizabeth (Schmitt) Shelton and was born October 8, 1952 in Alexandria VA. Her parents passed away when she was quite young, so she was raised by relatives Dr. Charles and Mildred May of Bennettsville SC and Gerald and Joan Patterson of Eugene, OR. While in South Carolina, Nancy won a statewide German language contest that awarded her a trip to Germany. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA and History and German, then toured Europe backpacking, and worked in Portland.

She moved to Seattle WA in 1976, working in health care, accounting, and as a manager with Pacific NW Bell until retirement. During her life, she was involved in a number of charitable activities with joy and a kind word for everyone. She is survived by her brother James Harper Shelton Jr of Evergreen CO, sister Sara Elizabeth Shelton of Boston MA, and nieces Caroline  and Margaret, plus grand niece Matheson.

Nancy’s passion was needlework, and she was acclaimed in the Puget Sound region for cross stitch and other needle arts. She especially loved demonstrating this craft to the public.

Donations can be made in her name to the NW Sampler Guild (nwsamplerguild.com) or the Evergreen Chapter of the Embroiders’ Guild of America, PO Box 31532, Seattle WA 98103.

We will miss her!
