John Morgan, 70, of  Hansville Washington, died December 31, 2017 from respiratory complications precipitated by a fall. He was surrounded by his wife and children at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Morgan was born January 1, 1947, in Alameda, California, to Jess Roy and Hope Morgan. Both were World War II veterans. John also served in the US Army from 1966–1969. He was stationed in both Tuy Hoa and Bien Hua, Vietnam where he served in the 854th Transportation Company and Field Artillery Division.

John was a multi-talented artist and earned a BA degree in Wood Working and Furniture Design at Cal State San Bernardino (where he met his wife Babette) and an MFA degree in Studio Art at Claremont Graduate University. John was an avid reader, wood worker, painter, and life-long learner. He loved to travel the great outdoors and camped with his family up and down the west coast.

John lived most of his life in Southern California and was retired from The California Division of Juvenile Justice, previously known as the California Youth Authority, where he taught some of California’s most serious youth offenders. John and Babette moved to the Pacific North West in 2016 to be closer to their children.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years Babette Mayor; son Cooper Morgan; daughters Heidi Morgan and Melina Morgan; son-in-law Scott Williams, grandson Rowan Anderson, father-in-law Adriean Mayor; brother-in-law Adriean Mayor Jr; and siblings Glencairn Morgan, Grant Morgan (sister-in-law Diana Morgan) and Jess Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Celia Howell, brother Dane and sister Pam.
