David C. Smith died from ALS on May 18, 2021 at the age of 69. He was born February 4, 1952 to Harry L. Smith and Ethel Mae (Cox) Smith in Crookston, Minnesota.

David graduated from Mount St. Benedict Academy in Crookston, Minnesota in 1970. He attended the University of Minnesota at Crookston, studying Hotel and Restaurant Management. In 1979, he was married to Karen Gerharz and they settled in the Winter Park, Colorado area. David and Karen celebrated 41 years of marriage in 2020. Prior to retirement, David owned a marketing and advertising agency, Winter Park Design. After a move to the front range of Colorado in 2006, David and Karen moved to Germany in 2014 to serve the Department of Defense Education Activity where David was a substitute teacher for Netzaberg Elementary School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Parrish in Eschenbach, Germany. David is best remembered by his love for his family, the friendship he offered to all he met, his positive attitude and his outgoing vivaciousness for life.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ethel Mae. He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Michael Smith and Steven Smith (Sarah); three granddaughters, Natalya, Gianna and Jaleh. David is also survived by twelve brothers and sisters: Shari Erbele (Tim), Patricia Bartoletti (Thomas), Jane Schellhas (Kurt), Robert Smith (Janine), Thomas Smith (Jacqueline), Mary Sue Boeddeker (Neil), Craig Smith (Eileen), Marcia Smith, Dalah Dieber (George), John Smith (Mary), Harry Smith (Lisa), Ann Smith Cameron (Troy) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary and Mass will be held on June 10, 2021 beginning at 10:30 AM at our Lady Star of the Sea, Bremerton, Washington. A reception will follow the mass at the church.
